Ty Clark : A New Journey Begins

Posted by: Ty Clark

"It is with equal amounts of sadness and joy that we write this post. Ty and I have experienced true adventure together - risking it all, every single day, for the betterment of others. Ty Clark is my brother, my dear friend, and I am excited to stand by him in this new journey. I asked Ty to share about his time at Kammok, and where the road leads moving forward. We Love you Ty! - Greg McEvilly, CEO/Founder

From Ty:

"Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”  J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

This quote reflects how I feel this week. My heart is full of all of the emotions that Bilbo had as he left something that he loved dearly to move on to a new adventure; an adventure that would change his life forever.  I have spent the last four years of my life dedicated to a vision, a powerful story, and an incredible adventure: the Kammok brand.  I guess you could say that Kammok has been my Shire, a place that I have given my heart, soul and mind to in ways that one cannot explain in words.  If I were a Hobbit it might just come out in a song over Brandywine!

At this moment in life I am being called to a new story. This is my last week at Kammok as the Director of MOBilization.

Over the last year, I have felt a major calling to get back to the things that I have been created for, and those things are in the realm of the arts. It is now that moment in my life to dedicate all my time and energy into creating art again.  I will be stepping away from Kammok this week to focus on my art, finishing my first film “A Canvas of Sound” (official trailer below), and the 3 books I have written over the last 8 years that are sitting lonely on a HD collecting dust in a desk drawer at home.

The past four years have been a massive swell of amazing adventures as a brand with a very strong vision to see lives changed. Together, Greg McEvilly (our Founder) and I set a course to see malaria wiped out in Africa and invest in our environment and holistic development, all while creating a corporate culture that is based on love and inspiring others. It has been an incredible and exciting ride.  Greg and I have ridden the adrenaline spike and endless nights of 3 wildly successful Kickstarter campaigns, trekking the frozen ground in Patagonia, climbing glaciers in Alaska, and building a team of incredible individuals that I truly love like family.

"Life is divided into three terms - that which was, which is, and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the future." William Wordsworth

I love that quote by William Wordsworth, the truths in our life only serve to remind us that we need to learn from yesterday, live in today, and combine those together as we move into tomorrow! I have been more than blessed in my short life of 40 years on this planet to experience and be a part of some amazing stories and adventures.  I have set foot on 5 continents and experienced life and culture in 20 different countries living, serving, listening, and learning.  As an artist, I feel as if I have a great responsibility to observe the things that I have learned and share these truths I see with the world through my art.  The painting below of Helen Keller's face in light and shadow along with her quote, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” is an example of me sharing these truths.

That quote defines not only my life's focus on community and community building, but that of Kammok's vision, “To Equip and Inspire for Life Changing Adventure”.  Here at Kammok, we believe that the only way to truly impact our world is by the inspiration of our community, the MOB (Moving Others Beyond).  We hope that we are able to move you beyond using our gear to give back and serve your community as a part of the Kammok story!  Your support has enabled us to donate over 60,000 life saving treatments to kids with malaria in Africa! That means every hour, 2 kids are provided with malaria treatments through your purchases! Amazing!

I have made some truly amazing friends here at Kammok and have had the privilege to bring my closest friends into the Kammok story. There have been so many amazing stories, random meetings and miraculous moments that have happened in the last four years that make this a very hard decision for me.

“But he was able to understand one thing: making a decision was only the beginning of things. When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.”  Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Kammok is absolutely a strong current and I am excited to be carried into the next one, running parallel and not away. I can’t explain in words how much Kammok truly means to me as a person. Big decisions are never easy to make no matter how confident you are that you need to make them, there is always room for doubt.

I love the quote by Wallace Stevens that reads, “Perhaps the truth depends on a walk around the lake.”  Sometimes we need some separation, or moments of solitude, in order to find the truth.  I recently spent 2 weeks in Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and South Africa working with vulnerable children and families who are living in extreme poverty that are on the verge of having to give up a child with the organization HELP One Now.  It was my walk around the lake.  I was able to find solitude and separation from life on this side of the pond while investing in something that has been a huge part of my life for 20 years. I knew my heart was leaning towards a new journey, I just wasn’t 100% sure of the timing.  My “walk around the lake” was all I needed to find my true answer. "It's time to begin a new journey."

We are huge dreamers here at Kammok.  Everyday we are dreaming of new products, new ideas, new ways to have social impact. I know that the dreaming will only grow.  As I move on to creating, observing, and telling stories all over the world with my art, I hope that you will follow along.  I will be Kammoking along the way!

I want to personally thank you MOBsters for making my life amazing and helping us build a brand that can make an impact in our world!

Know that you are loved by myself and the Kammok team!

Grace and Peace.
